The Tropix satellite program
Nigeria’s own satellite network
We’re developing a Nigerian-owned constellation of low-earth-orbit satellites to deliver affordable internet, mobile, TV and smart-home services to every region of the country.
Partner with usThe challenge
Millions of Nigerians live in areas where traditional cellular towers are too costly or impractical to build. These connectivity dead zones hold back education, commerce and opportunity.
Our approach
What sets our concept apart is the integration of satellite and cellular-tower technology. Satellites communicate directly with standard mobile phones, with no special satellite phone required, extending coverage to places towers can’t reach.
How it works
Four parts work together to carry a signal from orbit to the phone in your hand.
Satellite constellation
A network of low-earth-orbit satellites providing continuous coverage over Nigeria, linked to each other by crosslinks.
Ground stations
Strategically located gateways that control the network and deliver internet, TV and phone services to homes and businesses via fibre.
Satellite-cellular towers
Towers that extend satellite coverage to ordinary mobile phones in remote and underserved areas.
User terminals
Everyday phones, plus compact dish terminals that bring high-speed internet anywhere in the country.
What it enables
Internet
Broadband for homes, schools and businesses, wherever they are.
Mobile
Voice, messaging and data on the phones people already own.
TV
Broadcast television delivered direct to subscribers.
Smart home
Connected home and IoT services on the same network.
Nigeria first, then beyond
The network’s coverage footprint extends across West, Central and East Africa, creating opportunities to serve neighbouring markets in partnership with their governments.
- West Africa
- Benin, Togo, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Sierra Leone
- Central and East Africa
- Central African Republic, South Sudan, Ethiopia, the Horn of Africa
Spreading prosperity
We plan to own and operate the core satellite infrastructure while bringing existing and emerging Nigerian telecom operators in as partners. This model encourages competition, drives innovation and spreads opportunity across the communications sector.
Tier 1
Tropix Communications
Owns and operates the satellites, ground stations and core network.
Tier 2
Established operators
Existing telecom companies offering services on the network.
Tier 3
Emerging entrants
New and local providers reaching customers in their own communities.
